Rain, rain go ahead and stay...

Rain, I feel it on my finger tips, hear it on my window pane. Your love’s coming down like rain….

I actually don't mind the rain today. Maybe because I'm able to be home with my baby which means extra cuddling, or maybe because it means Spring is here. :)

Do you ever have one of those days where you just question what your purpose is in your life? I mean along the lines of a career, what will be the most fullfilling job that makes you happy and can support your family financially? Josh and I had one of those days yesterday. He despises his job, but it pays the bills. I despise school, and am not even 100% sure that teaching is the best career for me, but I love kids, and the perks of the job are what I want. So it should be that simple. But then why do I always question it? Is it because I am so over school that its hard to focus on the end result? Is it because I don't have any clue what I'm getting into? The fear of the unknown is always scary for me. But, I'm just not sure I'm headed in the direction that I should be. Sometimes I really think I should choose a career that will keep my creative juices flowing and push me to discover new talents I may have. But is that a smart decision, or worth the risk for my family's sake? What would I do anyway?

Ugh.

Then there's Josh. My heart hurts for him sometimes because I know he hates his job. But, it is all the income we have that pays our bills. We would be screwed without it at this point, until I finish school. Josh has aspirations and dreams, but obtaining them are tricky for us. The NAVY pays for his school, but he can't go unless its full time since he has a time limit for the money. In that case, he would have to balance a full time job, and school. But can he do that? I think he can. He doesn't. Then there's the option of re-upping in the NAVY and working towards a career with them. But is that really what he wants to do? Or is it the smarter decision? It's confusing to find a balance. He would love to do sports therapy and I think he should work towards that goal in school...But then how will we pay our bills until we finish? You see the dilemma? Geesh. Its like a midlife crisis over here...

We really don't know.
A rainy day is a perfect day to think about it.
Its not an easy decision..but we will work on it.

On another note...

Next week are finals, and I am DONE. Thank you Jesus! I will have a month off, then Summer Semester begins.

Educate yourself.

I have been constantly reading articles, research, books, etc about wellness in general. From toxins, gluten, chemicals, nutrition, you name it. I am slowly becoming very educated in this area. I have always eaten pretty well. But, I am slowly transitioning into a gluten free diet. First off, I know how awful gluten is for you. Especially for a baby whose brain is still developing and well- I just don't want to take the risk.

Everyone should read up on http://gaps.me/ and it explains how a poor gut flora as a newborn could lead to issues down the road. Poor gut flora comes from the mom and grandmother and this can be given to the baby. If the baby is receiving vaccines at birth, not being breastfed etc and their baby has a poor gut flora, this links directly to ADHD, Autism, learning diabilities, mood disorders, allergies, eczema, schizophrenia, tummy aches etc. Most don't know, but your gut and your brain are connected and it is very important to realize what toxins, and foods go into your gut, affect your brain. So having a baby, I really think this is crucial to their overall well-being. Also, the GAPS test can be done at birth and it is $180 dollars. It is non invasive. The urine, stool is tested. It can tell you right away if the baby's gut flora is good or not. It has a lot to do with their immune system as well (your gut and brain are connected) and if the test comes back poor-baby's should NOT receive vaccines at all until their gut flora is healthy. If they do, this has a very negative impact on the baby- Some develop these issues I mentioned above later down the road. So Moms and future moms, take care of your gut because it WILL be passed on to your baby and the numbers in ADHD kids and Autism and other disabilities will increase, and statistics will rise. Stop the cycle now! I only wish I knew this when I was pregnant-although I ate a pretty organic, healthy diet- I still would have benefited knowing this information.

Fact: Purchasing from bigger names such as Tyson, Egglands Best etc are not good choices. They pump their cows, chickens, pigs etc with hormones (this is why girls are starting their periods a lot earlier these days) and steroids that YOU and your children are ingesting. Milk, Cheese, Eggs, Meat need to be organic to steer away from the toxins and additives in their foods.

Moving forward...

I've cut out a lot of gluten, but I think I'm going to cut out all wheat for good in our family's diet. Its too hard on tummies to digest. There are no health benefits from wheat, or the whole grains a lot of healthy ads push. No benefits. The fiber can be maintained through other food sources. Gluten free diets are nothing but beneficial to everyone. I feel good knowing Levi is eating really well and the foods he eats will keep his insides clean and toxic free. I still have a few foods I need to transition into organic, GMO free and I should be on a good path.

Also, I've researched a lot on cleaning supplies-the chemicals in them are just too dangerous. So I looked up natural cleaners and its amazing how things you have at home already can do the job. i.e.-hot water, vinegar, lemons, etc. http://eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm Scroll down to homemade cleaner solutions. SIMPLE!

Skin care. Too many chemicals as well. I've already switched Levi to Baby Bee (Burts Bees) and Josh and I use Burts Bees Citrus and Ginger body wash. 99% Natural. I've had a hard time with Shampoo and Conditioner because I have very thick hair. So right now I use Suave-With rosemary and mint. (I'm still looking for an all natural product that works) For moisturizer, we mostly use pure 100% Coconut Oil, which already has AMAZING benefits period. Levi uses Baby Bee lotion as it really helps his dry patches he gets sometimes. http://www.treehugger.com/htgg/how-to-go-green-natural-skin-care.html

The list goes on and on: Sunscreen, Plastic toys and bottles, Public Places etc. Every parent is their child's advocate and it is our job to keeps as many toxins out of our children-since we already live in such a toxic world- and keep them healthy and keep ourselves healthy.

Goals: (Personal)
My next areas that need change are pretty simple.

Drink warm water with lemon every morning. (I struggle with this. Its easier to grab ice cold water)
Prepare detox water in a pitcher for every day.
Get a better purifier.
Replace one meal a day with a green smoothie, or Juicing.
Go to a whole foods store once a week for items on my grocery list that aren't sold at the local Kroger. (Lunch meat, Beef) I've cut these out of our diet, but I simply can continue these if I go to Whole Foods/Trader Joes!
Freeze organic fruit so I have it during the off seasons.
Take my Omega supplements daily.
Continue getting fresh air every day, and Vitamin D 10-15 minutes a day. (This is easier with the warm weather, but it is also very important for our brain health)

How to shop Organic on a Budget: Check out this: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=740
A lot of people immediately say buying healthy is too expensive.
There are ways to shop on a budget by simply cutting out the processed foods and referring to the dirty dozen. http://www.organic.org/articles/showarticle/article-214 The most contaminated foods should be organic and the least contaminated don't always need to be organic. Think about what your family eats the most when it comes to berries and vegetables. Those should be organic. Also, seek out local natural farmers markets. The prices are very affordable and you know exactly where your food is coming from.

Our weekend in a few snapshots--

Josh and I love the outdoors, warm weather, sunshine and family. So we spent most of the weekend outdoors of course. Spring brings out the best of me and I just love, love this season! Here are a few pictures from our weekend :)

Happy Easter BUNNIES.

My blog received a makeover! This is the most laid back Easter I've ever had. My parents are in SC, Josh's Mom is in AL, and my sisters are all working. Oh, and Josh works a 12 today. I've literally been having a lazy day. Its kind of nice actually. :) The sun is starting to come out, thankfully.
OH.. & Happy Easter BUNNIES :)

I was also looking through pictures from Easter last year, and it was Levi's 6 month birthday. Then I decided to create a collage today mish-mashing the two Easters together. Look how much Levi has changed! Tear. P.S. Levi would not take that bunny out of his mouth for more than a second, or give me a big old "I love bunnies" smile. :) He just kept kissing and hugging it.
I like to do these collages, and even simply a picture for a holiday, or milestone. That way, I can just print it on matte paper and put it in the scrapbook. Its a lot easier that way to document a moment, rather than go through a million pictures months later looking for that one from Easter, or Valentine's Day etc.
Happy Easter to everyone! Have a lovely Sunday with your loved ones. Remember what today is about :)

Sunshine Makes Me HAPPY.

TWO days in a row people. Ohio has given us a little hope that those buds will be coming on the trees soon, and little birdies will be by my window chirping away. I love Spring. Its my second favorite season. Mostly because of...
-walks
-picnics
-flowers blooming
-windows down
-windows open in your house
-a time for renewal
-sitting on the back deck and having dinner
-crafts outside
-colorful, EVERYWHERE

Speaking of crafts, I'm thinking of doing an Easter egg decoration craft with Levi today. THINKING. That's the key word. He may just literally eat the egg, with the shell on, when the dye has not dried. Ha ha. I may possibly come up with an alternative craft I've had up my sleeve:)
Happy Saturday and Easter Weekend all! (Try to remember what its really about :) )

Reflecting...

Sometimes...
I look back at old pictures and look at my pictures now and think how much my life has changed, how much my heart has changed, my opinions, my beliefs, my wants and needs in this crazy world. I wonder am I the same old me? Because I liked who i was...and then i realize i am the same old Hope. Just a much better Hope.

When I was 17...
I was naive, immature, a young lover, and a free spirit. To top it off, i thought i knew what i wanted, what my heart aspired to be, and who i was. Little did i know, i was wrong, and essentially got it all wrong.  I used to dream of studying abroad, living in other countries and traveling the world. Those were my dreams...But i wanted the best of both worlds. I wanted to be in love (with my first love), i wanted to be around my family, my friends, be in college, become a teacher and make a difference in children's lives. My heart was being tugged in different directions, and i was confused as most young people are. I used to contemplate up and leaving the life i was living and start somewhere new, somewhere fresh. But i was really running away. Running from the fears this world presents, running from uncertainties, and essentially running away from what my heart really wanted. I didn't pray, or ask God where I should be. Instead I focused on exterior sources in life to decide for me. No wonder I got it all wrong.

Over the next 5 of years I became a young woman. I learned a lot about life and love. I learned who my true friends were, I learned to follow my heart and my dreams. I learned how to listen to what God was putting on my heart, how to face my fears, trust and believe in the people God had presented to me. Throughout the years of learning, changing and growing, i did experience pain, hurt and changes. I lost my Grandma in this time and was shocked, sad and almost felt a sense of being lost for a while. I felt heartbreak from my first love and had to learn to trust that what God had planned for me was not all i had thought it would be. I learned to move on, trust others' words of wisdom and essentially find myself again. I learned to be who i am and love myself for all parts of my heart-including the scared, fearful part that I tried to hide.

At 21...
I met this lovely man. At the point of wanting to give up on love, my dreams and hopes..God literally handed this man to me on a silver platter. He was EVERYTHING my heart tried to run away from. He was soon to be the rock, the dad, the family man, the Husband, the best friend, and real love my heart wanted all along. I didn't need the studying abroad, the experiences, the single life, the partying etc. This is what I needed. Someone to finally open my heart up to, in a real and honest way. It was scary. Trust me. I tried to run, but he kept holding on and somehow by the grace of God, this man found me, shaped me and made me who I am today. This sounds corny. And i'm not sugar coating anything. We do fight, we do bicker, we do want to push each other down the stairs sometimes haha, but at the end of the day...My life is changed for the better because of the moment he walked into my life. On a bridge, on March 12th, during the first thunderstorm of the Spring season...okay, i won't keep going. Regardless. I've learned to trust because of this man.

When I was 23...

This little boy changed my heart even more. And its true when they say you think you love your Husband more than anything until a little boy steals your heart. Levi literally confirmed what God had been placing on my heart for so many years. I knew in this moment, this is where i belonged. This is what my heart aspired to be: A wife, and a mother. All my dreams and aspirations are secondary to being a Mom and a wife. The moment I saw him (sober the next morning, after the strong meds wore off haha) I literally melted. I cried and just held this sweet bundle of joy all day. I listened to him coo, cry such a sweet cry, and watched him until I fell asleep. It was so surreal that this little boy was mine. Forever. Having Levi in my life reminds me how lucky I am. It reminds me how all the growing pains in my life have led me here to this. Being a mom is such a blessing and a privilege.  Watching your baby accomplish so many firsts and having him choose you to snuggle, or kiss or laugh with is like fireworks going off in your heart. I cannot wait for my sisters to experience this one day.

At 24...

I am understood. I am happy. I am fortunate. I am excited to see where my life is headed. I have no regrets. I have love in all pockets of my life. I am blessed every day to be able to love my Husband and grow closer to him. I am blessed to have a sweet little boy to encourage and praise throughout his days. I blessed to have the faith to trust in God and what he has in store for me. I am still the same old Hope. I have the same interests, sense of humor, loving heart. But now I am clear about what i want out of life, and where I want my life to go.

Take a moment in your day to reflect on how far you've come in your life. Not just in your career, or your travels. Reflect on how much your heart has changed, and where you want your life to go. Aspire to be all that God has placed in your heart to be and you are bound to be happy.

Rock me Mama like a Wagon Wheel--& 5 Random Things..

Jackie told me to do 5 random things. And I have to listen so here goes...
(P.S. I don't know how to tag you, or your blog Jackie) --

1. I don't own a hair dryer, or a curling iron (I've never curled my hair) EVER...and my straightener is from when I was 16. (I'm 24 now...you do the math.)
All natural
2. I was 14 weeks pregnant with Levi when I got married. (Just for clarification, we were engaged 3 months before I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant--so technically this was not a shotgun wedding ;)) I couldn't drink, I was nauseas, and I didn't wear the dress of my dreams because I would get the urge to throw up in a tight dress. BUT, it was still one of the best days of my life :)

3. I love ping pong. And when our family gets together, we get a little competitive. This is real life.

4. I used to have my lip pierced. I actually really loved it. But the phase lasted a short few months.

5. I dressed up for the first time in a long time this year for Halloween-mostly because I didn't want Levi to be the only one :)

It is so disgusting out. I want Spring so badly. But, if you want to listen to a song that puts your mind and thoughts in a warm sunny place, "Wagon Wheel" by Darius Rucker has been on repeat for a week now. I love it. I'm not usually a fan of solo Darius Rucker, but this song is amazing! I feel like i'm on a patio in a sundress, enjoying summer. Listen to it. Hope everyone's Monday isn't as gloomy as mine. I need a pick-me-up, or maybe just a nap.
xoxo,
Hope
